Daar is tye deur die loop van ‘n jaar wanneer werk vir verskillende redes nie kan voortgaan nie. Binne die landbou-sektor kom reëndae redelik algemeen voor. Dit verwys na enige gebeurtenis wat buite die werkgewer of werknemer se beheer geag word. Die beplande oes kan byvoorbeeld nie plaasvind nie weens swaar onvoorsiene reën die oggend. Besighede moet ‘n reëndag beleid hê om voorsiening te maak vir moontlike werkstaking. Dit sal verseker dat werknemers bewus is van wanneer hulle moet werk, en hoe lank en selfs of hulle hoegenaamd werk toe moet kom. Hierdie beleid gee ‘n uiteensetting van enige vorm van ‘werkstaking’ wat mag voorkom. Die beleid moet die bepalings duidelik stel oor wanneer (en hoe) werknemers in kennis gestel moet word oor of werk voortgaan of nie. Indien redelike waarskuwing nie gegee is nie, moet die werknemer betaal word.

Is die minimum betaling van vier ure relevant vir reëndae? Ja, indien die werknemer nie binne ‘n redelike tydperk ingelig word nie, is die werknemer geregtig op minstens vier ure se loon (WBDV – Invoeging van artikel 9A in Wet 75 van 1997). Die volgende afdeling word hierby ná artikel 9 in die Hoofwet ingevoeg: ‘‘Daaglikse loonbetaling: 9A. (1) ‘n Werknemer of ‘n werker soos omskryf in artikel 1 van die Nasionale Wet op Minimum Lone, 2018, wat op enige dag minder as vier ure werk, moet op daardie dag vir vier ure se werk betaal word.”
