When it comes to understanding or preparing for an environmental audit, it can be a daunting task to think about all the different types of laws and requirements. The National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) is the primary law for environmental management in South Africa, supported by other related Acts. The SIZA Environmental Standard aligns with South African laws and global agricultural best practices. It’s crucial for producers, consultants, auditors, and other stakeholders to understand South African environmental laws and how they fit into the practical world of agriculture. SIZA compiled a guideline for agri-businesses that offers an overview of the relevant agricultural environmental legislation and guidance on how to implement it effectively. The guideline also includes additional resources and access material from experts to assist producers in their journey towards becoming more sustainable. To view the updated guideline, go to Member Resources on your MySIZA profile and refer to the SIZA Guidance on Environmental Legislation, or contact henrico@siza.co.za / 021 852 8184 for more information.
