Enabling South African Agriculture to be a global leader. Ensuring sustainable, ethical trade and environmental stewardship.

SIZA, the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa, provides a platform for agricultural stakeholders to ensure ethical and environmentally sustainable trade. This platform monitors care for the environment and ethical labour compliance. SIZA's aim is to encourage continuous improvement in practices over time in excess of the minimum legal requirements. SIZA engage directly with stakeholders throughout the value chain in order to identify needs and issues. Interventions and support tools are created by measuring member compliance over time.

The objectives of SIZA are as follows:

  • To implement a locally relevant and managed ethical trade and environmental programme, aligned to local and international standards in a professional manner
  • To support ongoing improvement of labour conditions and environmental practices on farms, pack houses and processing plants
  • To help manage commercial risks allied to ethical trade and environmental assurance matters
  • To give buyers (and other stakeholders) confidence in the South African supply base
  • To drive convergence with other programmes
  • To avoid duplication and to assist growers with ethical labour  and environmental practice compliance whilst minimizing costs.
  • To support ethical and environmental practices along the supply chain
  • To create full visibility for retailers on their suppliers through the MySIZA Platform
