As SIZA continues to gain market acceptance across the globe, it remains important for members and audit companies to pay attention to specific requirements from certain retailers and buyers.

A total of 674 social audits were conducted in the period 1 January to 31 December 2020. This results in a median of 56 social audits per month.

The SIZA Audit Process and Methodology (APM) has been updated to reflect material changes and to combine audit documents which were compiled over the last three years.

No audit can be completed unless the packhouse and/or processing facility was operational at the time of the audit.

Where registration or authorisation is required, auditors should evaluate the relevant documentation to assess whether the water-related activities the site engages in are legal.  

Auditors should familiarise themselves with the different types of invasive alien plants (IAPs) that are commonly found on farms, and their different categories as defined by the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act 10 of 2004 (NEMBA).
